The summer on both sides of the Atlantic is coming to a close and for some of you “hunties”, it is time to either start or go back to college or university right??? So, take a look on the courses we found that some universities have available for you to choose.
When I first read the article, I couldn’t believe my eyes and I even started to think about getting another qualification, because the ones that you are about to read are PERFECT!!!
A qualification/degree on divas??? Yes, please!!!
1 – “MADONNA the Phenomenon” at the University of Amsterdam
This course started in 1997, which in my opinion up to that time, Madonna had transformed herself in a variety of personas, she was a well stablished icon, so the people who organised that course knew that they had plenty to teach. From her music, to movies, to her influence in culture. The 40-hours course examined her lyrics, voice, her persona, religious beliefs and more.
2 – “Politicizing Beyoncé” at Rutgers University
The class is lead by doctoral student Kevin Allred and its focus is on how she used her status and music to highlight issues like gender, sexuality and female empowerment. I think that an essay or project based solely on the lyrics, live performances and the music video for “Flawless” is a must.
3 – “The Sociology of Miley Cyrus: Race, Class, Gender and Media” at Skidmore College
This course uses Miley as a way to explore sociological thinking about identity, entertainment, media and fame. The singer’s public persona is the foundation of the discussions, based on the fact that much of what we know about her is a reconstruction of who she really is.
I choose those three as the most interesting ones, but I came across universities with courses based on artists like Lady GaGa, Jy-Z, Kanye West, The Beatles and even the fierce Judge Judy.
Which one would you add to your list of classes???
Someone should open a campus with only that sort of courses. That would be AMAZING!!!
